TEXT | SPEECH | THOUGHT
The sun sank behind the massive mountains in the distance just as Decimus approached his south eastern border. It was chilly without the heat of the glowing orb, and yet Decimus’ fur was thick, warming the skin beneath his pelt. His breath was a visible puff of steam as he moved, his ears flicking atop his massive skull as each paw sank deep into the snow. Ever since his return from Autkion Rock with his lovely little sooth-sayer Palais in tow, Decimus had been busy with her adjustments. Now he’d left her in the warmth of the dens to patrol his borders and mark his scent, an act that could be delayed no further. It ensured that it would be inexcusable if some rogue intruder came waltzing onto his land, claiming ignorance to his borders. This was Decimus’ sacred land, and to intrude without his permission was a crime punishable by death in his very humble opinion.
With a lazy yawn, Decimus began to rub his sides against the trees, saturating every reachable inch of the area with his masculine scent. The amber shade was quickly fading from the sky, becoming darker and darker with each moment until there was only a stale gray left in its wake, the earth significantly darker. The chirping of birds had quieted to silence, and somewhere far above their mortal resting place, the Gods watched. The thought froze Decimus in his tracks, head tilting backwards, pale eyes lifting skyward as his pale pink tongue darted out from between his lips. It was as if he could taste them all around him, their omnipotent touch evident on everything surrounding him. ”Am I exceeding your expectations?” He asked, deep voice ringing in the stillness around him. He received no answer, naturally, but this did not sway Decimus. Surely if he was doing something wrong, they’d let him know in some way he assumed, so with a satisfied snort he lowered his head.
He was in no particular rush to return to the dens. He was certain that Palais would behave in his absence, and if she did not…well. Decimus grinned, losing himself in the daydream. He could imagine tracking her down by her scent alone, and the warm crimson that would seep into her pale coat when he caught her. It was a violent, riveting dream that left him both aroused and frustrated. He would harm none of his sklavins unless they gave him good reason to. It was not that he disliked Palais, for truly he was fond of her, and his daydream was a tad bit realistic. He would not kill her if she ever attempted to escape, not since she was a product of the Gods, very much like himself. Punish her, certainly, but never kill her. However, any other sklavin he claimed would not be so fortunate.
He contemplated the desire to inflict pain upon others as he lowered his haunches to the ground, sweeping his paws across the snow. There were times when he considered seeking out an unfortunate freior, or claiming a pathetic sin-filled slave just for the sake of blood on his tongue…but not yet. There was much to be done in Suden before he would allow himself the luxury of fun and games.

I D A (ee-da) If Ida had developed one bad habit in her time since trekking to these lands, it was her tendency to stare off to the mountains. They were so distant, the largest a mere triangular speck on the horizon and beyond... beyond was a homeland she wasn't sure she would ever see again. Icy, freezing, where one false step could land you in shattered ice and frigid waters. Though the she-wolf was rather small, she did not feel so burdened in the winters of Ravensbruck due to her place of upbringing. And when she peered out at the vast expanse - for it was easy due to the lack of large trees about her - she felt no homesickness. Indeed she wondered what was happening up there, but she did not miss it. Here she had her own home and here, one remnant of her past. Though Ida had not known Rowan before her journey, she was certainly grateful to have him now. Her current quest would be less of a monumental risk than it should have been, Rowan's lingering presence somewhere in the shadows easing her as she strolled. While her gate was leisurely, sometimes wandering in a relaxed trot, Ida indeed had a mission. She'd caught the scent of her neighbor not so long ago and though it was not a surprise, the aroma unsettled her. It was heady, most definitely masculine and male, and some sinking part of her gut told her he would perhaps be as bear-like as her concealed companion. Ida did not like to think herself a coward in any sense of the word, but she did not think she would brave the risk she was taking now if she didn't have backup. She had to introduce, if only to get a handle on who she was dealing with. For the true move of a coward would be to hide away like some frightened pup, all because of a mysterious scent. The separation of their borders was fairly small. By the time the sun had gone from just above the distant peeks to dipping below, Ida had encroached upon the looming trees that steadily grew in size the further she went. They were not the biggest she'd ever seen but far larger than the spindly, sparse woods of her territory and she had a sneaking suspicion that they also told of their master. But for all their intimidating, shadowy glory, Ida was assured that at least her guard would have better places to hide, preferably downwind through the forest. When her paws finally reached what could only be her destination in these woods the she-wolf halted. Truly she was slightly nervous, but swallowed it with the simple yet defiant raise of her skull, though there was nobody around to see. Yet the snap of a twig had her body whipping around, the howl that had built in her throat dying before it ever breached air. With the twitching of her nose she sniffed and was met with the same scent she'd been seeking, only heavier. Ah, the tasks of being an alpha, she thought with a hint of humor to bury any doubt lingering in her limbs, lurching forward to a steady walk. It took her no more than a mere minute to find the cause of the disturbance and sure enough, her query was there. It had to have been him, for he was as giant as she'd believed. He was sitting in the thin layer of snows that blanketed the ground, the posture contrasted to the eerie aura that seemed to radiate off of his body. Lingering only a few paces over the border, which wasn't at all much an intrusion, Ida paused and gave him wide berth out of respect and, if she weren't too high on herself for thinking it, intelligence. She was not foolish enough to near him on her own accord for she didn't know what this neighbor's character happened to harbor. "Greetings, master of Süden," she started, voice not giving a hint of anything away. In fact, she sounded rather monotone and expertly formal. " My name is Ida and as alpha of Osten I thought it only proper to make an introduction. Perhaps so there might not be any altercations with our neighboring territories." She stood there, observing him with an unnatural calm washed over her. Perhaps she could have started more simply, a casual greeting, but if Ida had gained any good habit in her time, it was Rowan's tendency to get straight to the point. One look at this brute told her she didn't want to be here any longer than she needed to.

TEXT | SPEECH | THOUGHT
The approach of the stranger was not lost on Decimus. He could see her there, weaving between the trees towards him, her head held high and her eyes intent on his frame. He watched her without moving, his muscles bunched beneath his fur, gray eyes locked on her diminutive figure as she came to a halt a safe distance away from him. It did not escape his notice. He gauged the space between them with obvious interest, a slow smile spreading to meet her. She was truly lovely, her fur a mottled collection of soft creams and auburn. There were no imperfections that he could see upon her, and the deep red splotches of her coat reminded him of blood in the dim light…
"Greetings, master of Süden. My name is Ida and as alpha of Osten I thought it only proper to make an introduction. Perhaps so there might not be any altercations with our neighboring territories."
The silence stretched between them after her words faded for the span of a heartbeat, two, three…and then Decimus got to his feet so that he towered above her, a rasping chuckle churning in his throat.
”So formal,” he murmured, voice carrying easily in the silence surrounding them. She was foolish to have come alone without knowing a single thing about him, but Decimus found that her sex was likely to blame. Females were becoming increasingly bolder, naively believing that they could rule as powerfully and securely as a male did. And yet Decimus would have liked to see the female who would have taken advantage of him. Ida, on the other hand, couldn’t exactly say the same. Briefly he considering sating his hunger for blood and pain with the little she-wolf who stood so courageously before him, but he knew nothing of the numbers of her pack, nor the state of it. Lips curling just slightly, he dismissed the thought with a flick of his ear. No matter how dark his thoughts were, he could not always act on his desires. Not yet.
”I’m impressed that you’ve come here alone,” he said, tone deceptively mild. With a shrug of his massive shoulders he pressed on, his next words intentionally suggestive. ”It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Ida. I am Decimus.”
There was a brief pause where he stood gazing at her, and then his lips turned downwards with a flash of ivory teeth, his pale eyes lit with amusement. ”However, I cannot pretend that I am not curious. What possible altercations do you see occurring, brave little alpha?”
He was practically growling now, a mocking edge to his words. There was something so deliciously wonderful about taunting the more audacious femmes such as herself. If Decimus was being honest he could not take her very seriously; she, with her tiny stature and formal words, thought to earn his mutual respect?
Eperna help her, she knows not who she seeks. It was the prayer more than anything that made him grin, no longer bothering to conceal the glimpse of large teeth that the movement granted.

I D A (ee-da) The first thing to greet the she-wolf was the rasp of a dark chuckle. It had her ears pricked atop her skull, her unwavering gaze firm on their target. She gave no indication that his laughter had her heart lurch in her chest with just a dash of fright from the sudden sound. He was intimidating, even for someone like her, but she would never give the satisfaction to his kind. She was not some mewling quim to easily fold under the heated gaze of the self-righteous. She stared him down with nothing short of her own brass and surety, her body as solid as the trees that towered around them. "Did I say I came alone?" It was surprise mixed with her own hint of mockery for his assumption and she did not waver under his intense scrutiny. "You assume too quickly, Decimus. It is unbecoming for someone in your position." She breathed a light sigh as if she were already tired of the interaction. And she was, for Ida could feel the arrogance seeping out of his every pore and curling around her like some disgusting vine crawling up and strangling a tree. "No, I come here with my pack. They are here in these very woods right now." Said as if there is not a sliver of room for a lie as her gaze sweeps briefly about the area. She does not tell him that she only had one, though that one did rival this brute's size rather equally. She does hope Rowan had heeded her caution to stay downwind. "I can assure you, large alpha," a reiteration and a prod at his own word usage, "that they match your muscle and scope inch for inch and would not hesitate to defend their leader." She sounds rather bored by that point, as if these spats to establish verbal dominance were beneath her. Truly Ida thought that they were. She could twist her words and remain with an authoritative calm like no other, yet she grew tired of such needless arguments rather quickly. Breathing for just a moment of pause, Ida considered him. He was much taller than herself, much heavier, with a cloud of something dark and foreboding seeming to loom over his head. Then she darted her eyes quickly about the space with a brief wondering of the size of his own pack. There was the faintest hint of another lingering in the air, most definitely female, and absently she found herself hoping some poor sklavin hadn't fallen under his rule. Ida didn't protest the practice of keeping slaves, only the unnecessary punishment lashed upon some of them. Looking to the brute once more she held him steadfast. "There is always the possibility of altercations between unknown neighbors. Our lands are not very large at all, mishaps therefor being more likely." Raising her skull a margin, sounding as uninterested with his apparent need for spats as anyone ever could, Ida sat. It was a light motion, her delicate legs ready to bound the moment he became a threat. "I do not take lightly to intrusions, but I am also not mindlessly prone to violence," perhaps a hint as to her quickly forming opinion of him, "if any of your members were to be caught on my land I would send them back with a warning. One warning. I would hope for the same consideration from you?" Truly, Ida already knew he might have been a lost cause for diplomacy or any form of agreement. Still, she remained as polite and passive as if she were talking of weather. " I admit some part of me hoped to establish a sort of allegiance, but I can already see such a notion is a lost cause here. Still, it is better to squash potential problems before they arise. All I seek is the knowledge of your ways. Are we going to have any issues?"

TEXT | SPEECH | THOUGHT
Ida’s threats were nothing but idle chatter in his ears; Decimus listened with vague amusement, making no move to interrupt her as she sat daintily before him. When she’d finished he made a low humming noise in his throat, glancing towards the trees behind her. He could see no one, could hear no one, and yet the direction of the wind was not presently in his favor.
”Is that so?” He finally drawled, a long sigh slipping from his lips. ”Well if your pack is as formidable as you claim it is, I suppose you expect me to behave like a perfect gentleman.” He paused, squinting into the distance. Was that a hint of movement he caught, flickering behind a distant oak? For a long moment he watched, but when nothing shifted again, he looked back to Ida. Perhaps she did have a pack lurking, then, and the glimpse of movement had been to serve as a warning. Or perhaps it had been nothing more than a squirrel or a hare. Either way, Decimus would not attack her without knowing for sure.
As she began to speak again he watched her, each word grating against his consciousness more and more. A warning. The thought of him offering her pack mates mercy almost made him grin again. And then she uttered the words that made him go very still, an internal switch flipping in the span of a breath.
”All I seek is the knowledge of your ways. Are we going to have any issues?"
”The knowledge of my ways?” Decimus echoed, laughter following. It was mirthless, as cold and unforgiving as the currents of the rivers in the winter. All traces of feigned friendliness was gone from the colossal brute now as he shook his head back and forth slowly. ”My ways are the ways of the Gods, my dear, and that does not bode well for you. I am here for one purpose and one purpose alone: to extract divine retribution upon those who are deserving of it. And is that why you are wary of me, little alpha? Does your soul quiver and cower in recognition of what I am? Yes, indeed I see that your sins sing a sweet tune for my ears alone. I will relish my opportunity to cleanse you when it comes.”
He grinned, his words swelling in his chest, the need to purge crawling beneath his skin as he stepped towards her. ”As for any intruders that cross my borders reeking of you, I will tear each vile wrongdoing from their shameful little bodies, and I will leave them on Osten’s doorstep for the crows. Through me they will find a world of eternal pain, and Hell will see them and rejoice.”
He took a single step closer, not so near as to cause her alarm, but his movements speaking loudly enough of the implied threat that lay beneath his words. ”Divine omnipotence created me, she-bitch,” he breathed, ”and you know not what beasts will awaken in this forest when shadows fall. Scurry back to your pack, harlot, before I give you another sin to add to your sizable list.” His gaze fell on her rump suggestively, making no move to hide the arousal that came with the idea of hurting her.

I D A (ee-da) ”Well if your pack is as formidable as you claim it is, I suppose you expect me to behave like a perfect gentleman.”Ah, expectations. Ida had little to none when she'd ultimately decided to pay this visit, lest she be disappointed. She certainly couldn't be, even after this deplorable introduction. She held few expectations for strangers and she'd certainly met her share of wolves with loose screws rattling around in their skulls. Now, simply gazing upon this brute, Ida was sure something had gone amiss in his head. She cared little for what it was, only that she'd discovered the fact and knew instantly this one wasn't to be trusted or trifled with. The rest of what he said was white noise if nothing less, and she gazed upon him with artful indifference. When he took a single step towards her, Ida held her ground. The pulse of fear that shot in her veins was the only betrayal that she was facing down a hulking opponent that could easily have mangled her. However, Ida inwardly scoffed at the notion of fear, her mind skillfully detached from the adrenaline that threatened to cloud the mind or body. She stared unwavering, no outward indication to mar her sense of confidence and calm as she swept the slight jitters away. "My soul is quite steady, thank you. I cannot say the same for your train of thought," she said and try as she might she couldn't mask the mockery that seeped just slightly from her words. She almost asked him if he'd tripped and fell on his head as a pup, but decided not to bait him in an effort to please herself. "Very well. If that's the way you will have it." She raises to her paws with legs pillars of poise, deflecting his threats with nothing more than the pitch of a shoulder. She cared not for his words, his preaching of insanity or the suggestions underlying what he'd said. He would obviously be foe, not friend, and it was the answer she'd sought. He was crazy, loose in the skull obviously, and Ida felt no inclination to war with him in a foolish game reserved for those lesser than her. She'd learned everything she needed to or wanted to about her neighbor in this brief exchange whether he knew it or not, and she saw no more reason to remain simply to battle his bloated ego. "Scurry back to your pack, harlot, before I give you another sin to add to your sizable list.”"And what a sin it would be." Though not one she was willing to partake in. She turned and strode briskly back the way she came with one glance over her shoulder, tossing her words with just a dash of hollow flirtation. "It's too bad you'll never get to experience it. What a rapture that would be." Perhaps it might have made her a foolish "harlot" to turn her back so willingly on a monster but with the jerk of her head Ida beckoned her shadow to come from his hiding. He would escort her back and she was not ashamed to claim his assistance when needed. If she couldn't win any competitions for size or strength she could certainly claim victory in other ways for the only thing that would make her a fool was to ignore the resources at her paws. "I think he needs his head examined." She says quite openly to Rowan with a sidelong glance glistened in amusement for her trusted companion.

TEXT | SPEECH | THOUGHT The bastard was so arrogant that Rowan couldn’t stand it.
From his place hovering silently behind the large trunk of a tree, Rowan could hear very little of the conversation, and yet occasionally the wind would carry snatches of conversation to his quivering auds. His muscles burned from the force of his restraint as his lips pulled into a snarl, his entire body itching to tear into the deranged creature that stood nearly toe to toe with Ida. She was so diminutive and light compared to the hulking alpha who stood before her, and yet she showed no fear. Rowan could see her perfect posture from where he stood, never wavering in the face of madness. He’d been unhappy about letting her go alone; no, he’d been furious. He was the same size as the dark behemoth, and Rowan was certain that he’d be able to fend off any unwelcome advances. Insanity was a disease, a weakness, and it would ultimately be Decimus’ downfall should the two titans ever come to blows. And yet…
And yet, Ida had not allowed it. Rowan snapped his teeth together with frustration; she was so damn stubborn, so infuriating, and yet he found that he couldn’t resist her when she turned those shining eyes on him. And so it was that Rowan found himself peering out from behind the bark, listening to snatches of pure lunacy drift from the creature’s mouth. His heart nearly tore through the tendons and bones of his chest when Decimus stepped towards Ida, his body jolting forward, his mind a whirl. Rowan would kill him, he would rip him to shreds if he hurt her, he had to move….but then the brute stopped, and Ida remained unscathed. Rowan stopped himself from barreling out of his hiding place at the very last moment, trembling with indignation and roiling fear.
Finally Ida turned to cross back into her own territory, gesturing to Rowan as she did. He melded from the shadows with a gracefulness that betrayed his frayed nerves, keeping up easily with Ida as he practically hovered over her, keen gray eyes inspecting her for any hint of disturbance. Blessedly, he found none.
"I think he needs his head examined."
He shot her an incredulous look that was spawned purely by the amusement in her tone. ”It is not funny,” he snapped, angrily crushing a delicate fern that had just began to spring from the snow beneath his massive paw. ”You are going to be the death of me. One day you’ll return from one of your insane escapades and you’ll find me dead. You won’t be so damn cheeky then.”
He was silent then, clearly brooding as he padded along beside her. His thundering heart was slowly beginning to calm, his head held low to the ground so that he could see her with ease. He knew that his reaction was perhaps unwarranted, and yet it had been like this for some time now. Rowan wasn’t sure when he’d stopped thinking of her as irritating and instead as someone who he would have protected with his life, but there was no going back now.
”So I trust there’s no chance of alliances?” He asked wryly after a long moment, pausing long enough to shake the gathered snow from his shoulders before striding along beside her.

I D A (ee-da) "Oh, it is too funny!" She insisted with a spring to her stride despite the abysmal introduction, flashing Rowan a cheeky grin in spite of herself. "And what would have killed you? Certainly not that beast," she says it with a dismissive glance over her shoulder, though the figure had already disappeared through the terrain and trees. Their surroundings began to thin, gradually giving way to more familiar meadow and sparse forest. "Insanity never bodes well for those it infects. He's mad as a ferret, and if he mistakenly lumbers across the border he'll be just as easy to dispatch." Such surety behind those words. Ida wasn't dumb enough to think a single snap of the jaw would defeat her strange neighbor. In time, she was sure he'd wither in on himself and do half the job for them. And the other half? Her eyes skim her companion with no doubt lingering in her mind to his capabilities. Rowan was many things but at least he wasn't crazy. But why? Why did she harbor any concern either way for this Decimus character lingering along her borders? Her flame-hued auds flicked backwards, not risking another glance. Ida had never been one for needles violence or bloodshed, though truly she did not think the schemes suddenly brewing in her mind were without cause. He'd made the relations between their packs quite clear and she hoped he was daft enough to overlook the idea she might treat his the same as he'd threatened hers. His rank within his own borders couldn't save his hide. She wanted him to step over the borders, if only to see that vicious flare in his eye fade out and be gone from existence. Surely the world would be better off without creatures like him roaming about, snatching up hapless victims. When Ida looked in the direction of his lands all she could see was a golden opportunity. Not one born from alliance, but one born from the ridding of vile blood. Her own territory was still fairly small but the same could not be said of her ambitions. If there was no great beast there to combat her, his lands could be ripe for the taking. She hadn't come to Ravensbruck for a speck of meadows and thinned wood, after all. ”So I trust there’s no chance of alliances?”Her gaze landing back on Rowan from where they'd strayed far-off, Ida couldn't help the glint in her eye. "Well, not with him. But one day this area will harbor a great pack that the others cannot ignore." Or she'd be forced to move onward, though it certainly wouldn't be her first choice. This location was ideal and strategic, if only it weren't scattered with too many ruling faces. "And then we will seek alliances. With Irrsin and Einheit." The two great packs to the east. Ida made a mental note to one day pay a visit to their leaders once she was ready to play her cards. For now she was content to sit and watch the world pass until an opportune time arose. She was nothing if not patient. It was a few breaths of silence before they stopped, the she-wolf turning to regard the other. "I suppose you would fall into the role as my most trusted adviser," she says this with the flick of an eye around them, making a point that they were yet to be bustling with many souls to take such a title. Ida had long since manifested a plan to fix that dilemma soon enough, though. "So I should ask you what you would like to see for this land. It's your home, too, as much as I'm not sure you gaze upon it with such fondness." Indeed, Ida still wasn't sure if he were merely here to pay a debt or if he honestly held any amount of respect for her or her ambitions. She knew him not one to give himself so lightly to a cause. After a moment of silence she allowed a wry smile to slip across her muzzle. "Or do you think of anything outside your brooding?" Indeed, most of the time she saw him, Rowan appeared ready to trample the next creature stupid enough to stand in his path, much in the manner he'd just squashed that fern. He'd inflicted the very same gaze upon her the first time they'd met. If it manifested upon his face in reaction to her goading right then, she would't have been shocked.

Ah, Irrsin and Einheit. Of course Rowan had heard of them; who hadn’t? Even having been in Ravensbruck a short time, the large silvery brute knew very well just how many rumors concerned the powerful packs, ruled by devilish queens who’d quickly allied with each other. While Rowan couldn’t exactly be considered a social butterfly, as he had no desire to treat with snooty, domineering she-wolves, he knew very well that it was a necessary step. Osten was small – at the moment, anyways – and Ida was smart to wish to ally with such large, notorious packs. Rowan had learned much of monarchies and politics during his time at Maude’s court; he would do all that he could to assist Ida in her quest to expand, to grow, no matter how irritating the task may have been.
"So I should ask you what you would like to see for this land. It's your home, too, as much as I'm not sure you gaze upon it with such fondness."
Rowan came to a halt beside Ida, a single triangular ear tipping backwards towards his cranium as he thought. ”It is home,” he confirmed quietly as his light eyes roamed across the land. Spring would arrive soon, and with it would come bountiful prey and beautiful days. Rowan wasn’t one for sappy sentiments, but truly he did enjoy his time spent in Osten…and with Ida. ”It has much to offer. Allies would be the wisest form of action to take, considering our less than pleasant neighbor.” His lips peeled upwards as he spat the last word, his anger still simmering somewhere far beneath his pelt. ”We need…others. Not just anyone; people we can trust. Warriors and hunters. It would be best to expand slowly, I think – to build.” As much as he did not wish to associate with scores of other wolves, it was what was best for Osten. As he’d spoken the gruffness of his voice had slipped away, replaced with levelheaded calculation, but when Ida’s next words found his auds after a brief silence, Rowan narrowed his eyes and turned to glare.
"Or do you think of anything outside your brooding?"
”I do not brood,” he grumbled, although he was very aware that he did. As he stood glowering at her, a fierce scowl upon his face, he could not help but take notice of the small smile that graced Ida’s muzzle. She was pushing his buttons, he realized, for the simple sake of watching him do exactly what she’d accused him of. With a huff that caused his giant chest to rise and fall sharply, he turned his head away in hopes that she could not see the way his scowl softened, his lips twitching as he struggled to keep them from turning upwards into a smile of his own.
”Whatever you decide to do,” he said, partially to steer himself away from the disgustingly bright tone this thoughts were taking, ”I will stand beside you. With enough ambition and time, we can turn Osten into something great.” He was aware what his words suggested: that he was staying, indefinitely, for better or for worse. He forced himself to turn to glance at her, his gaze flitting to hers. He would not look away when pledging himself to such a monumental task; Rowan was not exactly kind or soft, but he meant what he said.
